Miami Beach, FL – December 3, 2015 – As gallerists, artists, curators and collectors descended on Miami Art Week to experience the latest in the world of art and luxury, Bon Appétit Magazine, in conjunction with Volvo, brought Miami the first-ever “Taste What’s Next.” Michelin-starred Chef Fredrik Berselius and multimedia artist Chris Doyle came together, at the center of where art, food and technology blend, to celebrate Volvo’s Scandinavian luxury, functionality and design, while showcasing their own never-before-experienced work.

During a private cocktail reception and dinner, an intimate group of Miami’s leaders, tastemakers and trendsetters enjoyed passed hors d’oeuvres and a three-course meal prepared by Chef Fredrik, in his first-ever Miami Art Week appearance, and were the first to experience a preview of the Scandinavian-inspired menu for his much-anticipated new restaurant, set to open in Brooklyn in the first half of next year. Artist Chris Doyle also revealed a new projection-driven masterpiece rooted in connecting the natural world with the growing digital culture. Guests interacted with Volvo’s new XC90 model through special demonstrations and enjoyed sounds by Brooklyn-based DJ talent MICK.

Miami, FL – December 2, 2015 – When it’s Art Basel there’s no doubt you’ll find artists everywhere looking to showcase their talents. In between the hustle and bustle, World Red Eye found street artist Alec Monopoly tagging up the walls of Wynwood with his signature designs. Monopoly gave us an inside scoop into what inspires his designs, as well as what the rise to the top is like.

WRE: How did your signature “monopoly” theme come about?

AM: I started tagging The Monopoly Man back in 2008 in the midst of the economic crisis. The world felt like it was collapsing, and the Monopoly Man felt like a natural satirical answer to that. It’s since morphed and taken on new meaning; I believe you need a lot of ambition and hustling to get what you want in life, and my art pushes that theme.

WRE: Tell us what a day in the life of Alec Monopoly like?

AM: A lot of painting. People see the more flashy side and gravitate towards that, but I’m painting like a maniac most days. It’s a 24/7 job and I don’t ever take that for granted. Paying my bills by doing what I love everyday is a blessing.

I believe you need a lot of ambition and hustling to get what you want in life, and my art pushes that theme.

WRE: What does “being creative” mean to you?

AM: I think being creative is pursuing whatever it is your passionate about. Whether it’s finding creative solutions to problems in business or making a beat or painting on a canvas, creativity and passion are very closely linked in my opinion.

WRE: Is their a creative medium would you love to pursue but haven’t yet? Why?

AM: Sculptures! I see other artists doing such crazy things in the sculpture world and it’s something I’m very excited to explore and tackle in the coming years of my career.

WRE: What message are you trying to communicate with your art?

AM: Originally it started as a commentary on capitalism and corporate greed. Those themes are still there, but it’s also taken on an inspirational element. Skies the limit sort of thing. If you put your mind to anything you can achieve it, and characters like The Monopoly Man and Richie Rich who represent wealth and success are very overt examples of that.

WRE: How have you seen street art change in the past decade?

AM: More and more street artists are exploring with canvas and galleries. I think to some extent, it’s moved away from only being a shady, illegal activity to a lot of cities embracing it. There’s now more and more opportunities for street artists at all levels to legally paint walls and make a living doing it, which is amazing.

WRE: Is their a person or brand in which you would like to collaborate with and have yet to do so?

AM: Richard Mille. I’ve got a great idea for a collaboration with them.

WRE: If you were stranded on an island with one artist, one musician, and and one writer who would they be and why?

AM: Artists are a pretty unpredictable, rowdy bunch so it might end disastrous if two of us were stranded on an island together. I’d probably choose Jay-Z as far as musicians, that guy seems pretty resourceful he’d definitely figure out how to get us off the island. For writer maybe Hunter S. Thompson if he were still alive, I’m guessing he’d figure out how to ferment coconuts into vodka so we’d at least be drunk waiting for Jay Z to save us!

Guests danced their hearts out to a set by A-Trak that kept everyone raging until the early morning hours. The evening, hosted by Jefferson Hack, Daniel Arsham, Rose McGowan, Emmanuel Perrotin and Arturo Castro.

The fourth instalment in Arsham’s “Future Relic” series, Future Relic 04 builds upon the artist’s key themes of temporality, autonomy and decay, depicting a future civilization at various points before and after a major ecological change on Earth. The series, culminating in a feature film in 2016, follows the story of Lona Rey (played by Juliette Lewis) and her quest to rescue the legacy of her father, the scientist responsible for the excavation of the moon in the future world. The series also stars Mahershala Ali, Arturo Castro James Franco, Ronald Guttman, Matthew Maher and Ethan Suplee.

Miami Beach, FL – December 2, 2015 – Amid the festivities taking place during Art Basel 2015 on Miami Beach, Tracy and Alonzo Mourning welcomed guests to celebrate Art Basel in the name of Honey Shine, Inc. Renowned artist Anthony Liggins, owner of Gallery 88 and Deutsch Fine Art opened their Miami Beach location to the organization. Guests enjoyed exhibitions of Liggins’ paintings, and sculptures from acclaimed Uruguayan artist Javier Abdala. Attendees included Miami philanthropists, elected city officials, and Honey Shine partners and sponsors. While appreciating the art on display, guests received the opportunity to learn more about the organization and the population of girls it works to empower. Crown Wine and Spirits served as the official wine sponsor for the event.

Miami, FL – December 3, 2015 – Shareef Malnik, proprietor of The Forge, together with designers Donald and Lisa Pliner celebrated Art Basel Miami week at the Pliner’s gallery, Coming Home in support of Make-A-Wish Southern Florida. Coming Home is a five color lacquer furniture concept gallery encompassing home furnishing, unique objects and art created by the Pliner’s and other artists. More than 400 people attended the fete, including Governor Charlie Crist, John Secada and more. The event also featured an auction of two of Donald Pliner’s Sketches and raised enough money to grant two wishes for Make-A-Wish, Southern Florida.

Miami Beach, FL – December 5, 2015 – Cricket and Martin Taplin, owners of Sagamore, The Art Hotel, along with the Bass Museum of Art; Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami; Lowe Art Museum; Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami; NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale; The Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Art; Perez Art Museum Miami; and the Wolfsonian-FIU, welcomed over 3000 of the world’s most prominent artists, curators, gallerists and art enthusiasts for the 14 th Annual Art Basel Brunch, declared by the press as the “can’t miss” Art Basel event of the season.

The Sagamore in collaboration with Electronic Arts Intermix (EAI) exhibited a hotel wide video installation curated by Lori Zippay, EAI’s Executive Director. The special selection of media artworks selected for the public space of the hotel were drawn from the extensive archive of EAI, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering, the creation, exhibition, distribution, and preservation of moving image art. The media artworks on display in the hotel presented formal, conceptual or perceptual transformations of natural landscapes and environments. The works of artists Takeshi Murata, Seoungho, Cho, Gary Hill, Nam June Paik, Leslie Thornton, C. Spencer Yeh, Steina, Mica-TV, Dike Blair, and Dan Graham span throughout five decades and range from playful to socially resonant with the investigation of diverse notions of landscapes. At the entrance of the hotel was an interactive installation entitled Portals that connected residents of and visitors to Miami to strangers in Portal locations around the world, including Afghanistan, Cuba, Honduras, Mexico and more. Also on view was a visually arresting environmental site-specific installation created by renowned sculptor, Alan Sonfist.
